Why I Started Music City Tidy Co.

And Why It’s About So Much More Than Just Organizing

When I was a kid, I had a lot of freedom to be messy in my own room. My mom would ask me to clean it, and I’d say okay—but truthfully, I didn’t know where to start. It was overwhelming. I wasn’t lazy or resistant; I was just stuck.

From time to time, my mom would come sit with me in my room, and together we’d go through every single item: clothes, toys, books, all of it. We’d sort, clean, and decide what I wanted to keep. Because we did this consistently—about once a month—I eventually learned how to do it on my own. That time with her was invaluable, not just because my room got clean, but because I learned a process that worked and I got to know my mom on a deeper level.

Now, as a mom myself, I do the same thing for my kids. I sit with them, walk through it step by step, bond, and help them build those same habits.

When they were babies, I needed to make a little extra money. A few friends saw what I was doing in my own home and said, “You should come do that at my house!” I didn’t charge them—it was just fun—but they encouraged me to consider turning it into something more. Word spread, and I started organizing professionally. It was small and manageable, perfect while my kids were young.

Over time, I’ve organized for all kinds of people and all kinds of homes, while still working primarily in theater—my steady job. I’m a stage manager by trade, which, if you think about it, is really just organizing behind the scenes. Fixing chaotic spaces and bringing order has always been where I thrive.

But as I’ve done this work, something deeper has come into focus:

People don’t just need someone to clean.

They need someone to sit with them, like my mom did with me.

Someone to help them think clearly when their space feels like too much.

Someone to make decisions alongside them when it’s hard to do it alone.

That’s what Music City Tidy Co. is really about. Yes, it’s a professional service—but I hope it becomes something bigger: a community.

I want this to be a space where people can reach out—locally or even across the country—and say, “Hey, I’m struggling with this.” I want people to be able to vent, laugh, swap stories, and remind each other they’re not alone. Whether you need someone to come to your house or just need to know there are other people out there fighting the same uphill battle, you’re welcome here.

We’re not just here to clean houses. We’re here to support people.
